Joanna Chalson is Guest Artist in July

"FLOATING" by Joanna Chalson

The Maye River Gallery is excited to host guest artist, Joanna Chalson, along with her collection of intriguing mixed media art work during a month-long exhibit entitled, “Puzzles From My Mind,” running July 1 through July 31.  Chalson, a Lowcountry resident and currently an instructor at the Art League of Hilton Head, studied at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Art and has participated in art education both stateside and abroad.  She holds a BFA from Wittenberg University and a Masters in Art Education from Manhattanville College.  Her use of watercolor and other artistic media has garnered her many awards in past art competitions from as far north as Vermont following down the Eastern seaboard to Hilton Head Island.

“I am always looking for new materials to use in my artwork.  Sometimes new or different papers/mediums spur me on to incorporate a new color palette or incite a new idea,” she says. “The basic mediums I use are bottled acrylics, which can be painted or used with a pen, along with a combination of markers, chalk, and colored inks.  Often, I print papers and cut them up to use in my creations.  Anything goes if it works!”  The Maye River Gallery exhibit is a sampling of Joanna’s work.  Each piece is different from the next, excluding the color schemes specifically created to encompass a contiguous mood, allowing her varied work to hang comfortably side by side in the home of the collector.”  Joanna says, “My goal is for each piece to be unique, telling its own story, but, also be able to fit together with the overall idea of my creations.”
