KARIN HAUPSTEIN

Silk Painter
Art to Wear and for the Home

IMG_5316.jpg

I have always been interested in the fiber arts and started sewing at the age of five and was making my own clothes by the age of nine. After studying at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and specializing in Fashion Illustration, I was employed as Art director at a department store and the U.S. Shoe Corporation.
My love of fabrics, pattern and textures drew me into the fiber arts as a spinner and weaver. I discovered the richness of working with silk and the kaleidoscope of colors that has become my main focus over the past few years incorporating this into all facets of my work including shawls, scarves, clothing and home decor.

Using French Dyes to combine unusual colors and archiving textures by layering colors and manipulating them with salt, alcohol, metallic paints and other mediums allows me to create all forms of art from abstracts to finely detailed illustrations.
Each purse I make is made using the silk fusion process. Layering un spun silk fibers of different colors and incorporating with other fibers, feathers or small beads they are then fused together. I embellish the purses with beading, embroidery, hand made silk flowers and unique buttons.

I always make designing each piece of my art as one of a kind.
I hope you take delight in your Art to Wear and Unique Home Decor.
